Noise Management Strategy
Airport Noise Abatement
Dane County Regional Airport (DCRA) is commtitted to reducing the impacts of aircraft noise whenever possible. DCRA works closely with airport partners to reduce the impact of noise on the surrounding community by encouraging the use of noise abatement procedures and other takeoff/landing methods that reduce noise pollution over noise sensitive areas. The success of noise abatement strategy depends largely on the cooperation of pilots, air traffic controllers, and airport officials. DCRA has implemented several strategies to assist in noise management strategies, some of which include:
- Preferred runway take-off procedures for military and commercial aircraft.
- The installation of signage on runway exit points that detail airport noise abatement procedures.
- The construction of a “Hush House” that deflects noise skyward when testing military aircraft engines.
- A semi-annual noise meeting with the community and stakeholders.
- Currently the Airport is operating with RUNWAY CONSTRUCTION CLOSURES. Abnormal flight patterns are expected. For additional information or concerns, please contact the Airport.
Your input is important. If you have questions, would like more information, or would like to report a aircraft noise event, please contact the Airport's Environmental Officer at:

Airport Noise Abatement Subcommittee
Airport Noise Abatement Subcommittee
Dane County Regional Airport temporarily suspended Airport Noise Abatement Subcommittee meetings starting in March of 2020 in accordance with Dane County directives due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Prior to resuming Airport Noise Abatement Subcommittee meetings, DCRA began the FAA's voluntary two-year comprehensive airport noise study, known colloquially as the "Part 150 study". In an effort to consolidate resources and noise-related information, the community engagement events native to the Part 150 process are held in lieu of the semi-annual Airport Noise Abatement Subcommittee meetings. Upon completion of the Part 150 study, DCRA will resume the regularly scheduled Airport Noise Abatement Subcommittee meetings.
